PERTH COLLEGE LEADERSHIP CAMP 2019

WHAT HAPPENED AT PERTH COLLEGE LEADERSHIP CAMP IN 2018?

What Is PCLC All About?

Perth College Leadership Camp was founded in 2018 between Perth College and Burn Bright. In 2019 we are proud to announce that Perth College Leadership Camp will run for its second year. PCLC is a highly interactive, challenging and motivating program that brings together students from across Western Australia. The program focuses on developing personal character and a sense of value, identity and purpose whilst also enhancing leadership and character resiliency skills.

Over four jam-packed days, PCLC will delve into values, grit, service and vision  to enable leadership growth and development. What makes PCLC come alive is the small group experience enabling mentored discussion and reflection. This unique opportunity allows students to unpack the highly engaging keynote speakers, interactive seminars and outdoor team challenges that make up the remainder of the program.

“An unimaginable experience which was relevant to girls our age, informative, an amazing learning experience and something I will never forget. Mentors made the experience safe and open. I will recommend to everyone I meet.”

What Happens at PCLC?

Values, Grit, Service, Vision

Each day at PCLC is framed around a particular theme; values, grit, service and vision. Each of these themes we believe form the foundation of leadership. To help us explore the particular theme of the day the program (see below) is written to enhance, excite and challenge students understanding. We don’t just operate in the realm of ideas though, we believe in being able to take these ideas and apply them into leadership straight away!

The Program

The program is jam packed and designed to make the most of the 4 days we have together. Throughout the 4 days students are broken into small groups of about 10 other students. This small group is lead by 2 mentors who are specifically chosen by Burn Bright and Perth College. The program is designed to have a variety of elements to create a holistic experience for everyone who attends. Each day students participate in small group discussions, large teamwork based group challenges, listen to inspiring speakers from around Australia  and are challenged and encouraged to think about what leadership means for them.

Our Speakers

In previous years a wide and diverse range of speakers have shared their story with students at PCLC. Speakers in 2018 included Anne O’Neil, Luisa Wing, Dean Dell’oro and Tracy Vo ! There are lots of surprises in store for 2019! Watch this space.

Our Team

Our fabulous and amazing team are the people who bring PCLC to life! We are lucky to have Burn Bright volunteers and Perth College Old Girls who come from all parts of Australia and New Zealand. These people give up their time because they understand and know the impact PCLC has on young people. Many of the mentor team first experienced a Burn Bright camp as a delegate and have been doing everything they can to come back and serve the next generation of young people!

Some Key Questions Answered

Do All Young People Get Accepted To Attend PCLC

PCLC ’19 has a maximum capacity of 100 student attendees, including 12 returning delegates from the past year’s camp. Generally the first 100 young people to be nominated will be accepted. If an application is declined, full payment will be returned.

Who Should Attend PCLC?

Any Perth College girl in year 11 or year 12 in 2019 who wishes to invest a week of their school holidays in building strong relationships, wants to understand who they are and what they stand for more and  who desires to enhance their leadership potential should attend.

What Supervision Structures Are in Place at PCLC?

PCLC has an adult to student ratio of 1:4. We ensure that we have a highly trained and skilled group of volunteers and Burn Bright employees who are on hand to ensure the experience is unforgettable for all students who attend. During the camp students are broken into a small group of about 10 other students with 2 dedicated adult leaders. We have a camp counsellor on site 24/7 for any issues that may arise during the time away at camp. It is a requirement that every leader and team member who steps onsite at PCLC has a valid Working With Children Check and has passed a National Police Check.

RETURNING STUDENTS

In 2019 we will be opening a limited number of student spots to girls who attended PCLC in 2018 and would like to return to serve the new group of PCLC girls. The program is specifically designed for these girls to take their learnings from 2018 and build upon them to continue growing their leadership capacity. To be eligible for the returning students program girls MUST have attended PCLC in 2018 and MUST still be at school in 2019. Girls can apply for this program through the student nomination form.

MENTOR POSITIONS

In 2019 we get to open up mentor positions to more old Perth College girls and anyone who has attended PCLC in the past and has left school we encourage them to apply for a mentoring role. We do however have a maximum capacity of 10 Junior Mentors and 10 Lead Mentors. To apply to be a mentor you MUST no longer be at school in 2019. If you wish to apply to attend PCLC as a mentor 2019 you will need to complete the application form in the link above. Please note that given the restricted numbers of possible mentors not all mentors that apply will be given a mentoring position. Mentors will be chosen based upon a set of criteria developed by Burn Bright and Perth College.
